Yahoo is not just a major search engine player – they offer a multitude of other services from ad spaces to hosting solutions. They have built a good name starting with their very popular instant messenger so they have a natural following whichever product they choose to produce. To some, this is what sets Yahoo apart from Google or Bing.

We will give you a brief overview of what Yahoo Small Business hosting is all about.

What Is Yahoo Small Business Hosting?

The Yahoo Small Business Hosting packages are targeted for smaller companies or start up firms that do not need enterprise-grade servers. This is ideal for those who want to have their own personal websites or start an online shopping store. This is also excellent for those businesses who want to diversify their hosting options so that they are not limited to a single provider.

What does Yahoo Small Business Hosting do? They give you:

  • Web storage
  • Data transfer allowance
  • Site pages
  • Email addresses
  • Site design tools for use

Also, with very hosting package is a 24/7 support team that is there to hold your hand from the set up to troubleshooting efforts.

As a general rule, for those who sign up for at least 3 months will get 50% off on a particular package. Note that this discount was valid by the time of this writing.

The Basic Package

To go into further detail, let’s look at the Basic Package. This package includes:

  • For $2.50 per month for the first three months (becomes $4.99 after that), you get 100 GB of disk space for storage
  • 1,000 GB per month of data transfer allowance
  • 10 site pages
  • 250 email addresses
  • Free use of Yahoo site design tools

Now this type of package is quite cheap for those who are just starting out and do not want to risk putting their money on never heard hosting companies. The ballooning to $4.99 is quite pricey, though. But at least you got a head start for the first three months.

The Advanced Package

The Advanced package consists of:

  • $4.00 per month for the first 3 months and then becomes $7.99 per month after that
  • Gives you 500 GB of disk space
  • Allows for 5,000 GB of data transfer per month
  • Allows you to have unlimited site pages
  • Gives you 500 email accounts
  • Free use of Yahoo site design tools as well as some third party tools
  • Certain programming languages are already supported

This is targeted for those who are a bit more advanced in terms of needing hosting partners. This is ideal for those who will be building a huge network of pages since it allows for unlimited pages per account.

The Premier Package

The most expensive package is the Premier Package. What do you get with this one?

  • For $6.00 per month on the first three months and then balloons to a hefty $11.99 per month after that
  • Gives you unlimited disk space and data transfer allowances, great for sites that expect heavy traffic
  • Unlimited site pages are allowed
  • 1000 email addresses are supported
  • Private registration of your domain becomes an option
  • Programming languages are supported
  • Yahoo site design tools as well as third party tools can be used per account

Now usually the all-unlimited packages are way cheaper than this but then again, at least you have the name of Yahoo to depend on.

I would suggest staying away from Yahoo Small Business, here’s why. Anytime someone attempts to hack your sight you typically have access to the .htaccess file to block the offending IP address. This is not true with Yahoo Small Business. Subsequently, anyone can easily bring your site down simply by making automated calls to any of your pages, particularly if that page makes a dB call. And, (here’s the good part), there is nothing you can do to stop it. Yahoo support will not block IP addresses via request and they do not have automated intrusion detection. So, if someone doesn’t like your site, they can very easily take it down until a hosting provider takes them down (could be days or months even if you can trace the IP address).
